use of surplus parts

Post by millman_52 » Tue Oct 16, 2018 10:53 am

From my old plaz pack 650 system There is going to be an MTA card, (2) EZPlug stepper cards 4 Gecko Vampire stepper drives, (4) working stepper motors, I also have a 60A power supply.

Was wondering if I can purchase other components to use with the above listed items to build a system with THC to run on Linux & operate a Hypertherm 1250 plasma.

If so what other parts do I need?

You can buy the MP3700-DTHC5 (prior MP3600) and get all of the "front end" including the PC, LINUX, control software (CommandCNC) DTHC 5 , external modules including new MTA250 card . What you will not get is any of the power section , power control, drivers, motors, cables etc. If the Plazpak will turn on (without the old MP1000 plugged in) then you can use it. Otherwise it won't work with the MP3700 beacuse thre is no remote on - off buttons for the power supply. You can also look at the new Plazpaks without motors and replace everything but the motors.

The old psc650 powers up but no power will go to steppers till the "On" button is pushed on the front panel of the MP1000

Correct and the later MP3000/MP3500/MP3600 series did not have those buttons since the later power systems starting with the ESP/ESPII and ESPIIA have the control on the front.
We used to have a conversion card that would trigger the DC but we shipped the last one about 4-5 years ago. I don't have spares for that controller (one large main card) and nothing for the MP1000. I don't remember which cable we used to carry the front panel on/off signals to the 650 box. The actual switches are on the front panel of the MP1000 box. The only problem in doing a parts and pieces build is what is under warranty and what is not and if something stops working how do you get it fixed if its the older obsolete parts? The MP3700 is a separate box so that is easy.
